Overview

Kapwing , a leading online content creation platform, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Managing Editor to oversee the Kapwing Resources library. This role is pivotal in setting the editorial direction, maintaining high standards of quality, and ensuring timely delivery of content. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in digital media, social media trends, and editorial SEO.

• Equal parts journalist and marketing strategist with love for in-depth storytelling and highly-original content
• An experienced manager. Comfortable with recruiting, managing performance, training, and evaluating vendors. 
• Have been in charge of a publication with more than 1 Million readers per month. Ideally, you grew that publication from 0 to 1!
• Passion for social media platforms and empowering video creators

Responsibilities

• Content Operations: Lead, write for, and manage the Kapwing Resources library. Plan and approve assignments for writers and editors, ensuring deadlines are met.
• Team Management: Hire, coach, and supervise writers and editors
• Content Strategy: Collaborate with the Kapwing’s CEO to determine content and topics for the library based on understanding of Kapwing’s customer and SEO
• Quality Control: Oversee proofreading procedures and edit copy when necessary to maintain high-quality standards. Establish standards for guest writers. 
• Performance Analysis: Analyze performance metrics to quantify results and optimize content for traffic, engagement, and growth.
• Best Practices Implementation: Implement best practices, workflows, tools, and templates to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the publishing process.
• Oversee our YouTube production: The managing editor will manage our YouTube channel manager, overseeing the quality of the work produced on Kapwing’s YouTube channel.

Requirements

• Proven experience (5+) as a journalist or managing editor, preferably within a media company covering digital media and social media trends.
• Has hired, trained, and managed more than 10 people (contractors or full-time) in the last two years. Skilled at interviewing and coaching writers and video producers. 
• Writing skills: Exceptional ability in journalism and editing, with a strong understanding of SEO concepts.
• Technical proficiency: Passion for and interest in AI, new technologies, Ghost, and SEO keyword research platforms
• Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to plan and coordinate people and operations effectively.
• Attention to Detail: High attention to detail and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Digital Media Expertise: In-depth knowledge of digital media and social media trends. Our ideal candidate has grown their own newsletter, YouTube channel, or social media account from scratch.
• SEO Mastery: Highly experienced with editorial SEO and content optimization.
• Education: BSc/BA in journalism or a relevant field
