Senior DEI Compliance Investigator

Location: Adelphi, Maryland

The Senior Equity Compliance Investigator's primary responsibility is to conduct timely, impartial, thorough, and equitable investigations pertaining to allegations of discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation in compliance with UMGC policies and procedures and various federal and state laws including, but not limited to, Fair Employment practices, Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The Sr. Investigator will collaborate with DEI leaders and other stakeholders within the university to provide subject matter expert recommendations on a variety of university initiatives and projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Write comprehensive and concise Investigative Reports with findings and recommendations for appropriate remedial actions.

  • Interview complainants, respondents, and relevant witnesses to gather information and evidence; serve as a neutral party through all aspects of the investigative process; and ensure equitable treatment of all parties.

  • Prepare an Investigative plan with timelines, proposed interview questions for parties and witnesses, and a list of relevant evidence to request.

  • Communicate pertinent investigation activity and information to all relevant parties and/or affiliated stakeholders.

  • Assist in the development of University protocols, procedures, and policies and University-wide training and outreach related to anti-discrimination and anti-harassment laws, policies, and procedures using subject matter expertise to provide leadership, and expert consultation and awareness programming to address diversity, equity, and inclusion concerns to include but not limited to diversity/inclusion awareness, sexual misconduct, discrimination and harassment prevention.

  • Lead/manage key projects and initiatives to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Minimum of 2 + years of investigation experience, which may include, but is not limited to, workplace, human resources, discrimination, law enforcement, and/or legal investigations. 

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local equal opportunity, civil rights, and non-discrimination laws and regulations that apply to employment and educational settings at a public university (e.g., the ADA, Section 504, Title IX, VAWA, Title VI, and Title VII).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience conducting sensitive and confidential investigations.

  • Strong analytical, writing, and critical thinking skills.

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree

  • Conducting investigations with students and staff in a higher education institutions
